Cougar Cards Benefit Football

Look for a football player to be knocking on your door soon.

The annual ‘Cougar Cards’ fundraiser is scheduled for this Thursday, Aug. 25 when Escalon High School football players will fan out to cover the community. They will be armed with their Escalon Football Cougar Cards, which are available for $15 and include special deals from many local merchants, businesses and services. The price is the same as it was last year.

“A lot of the merchants in Escalon are on board with this,” said EHS Athletic Director and head varsity football coach Mark Loureiro. “Many businesses in the community offer deals; this is well supported by the community.”

Good for a full year, the card has special deals for a variety of local restaurants, in addition to some services and a couple of out of town businesses as well.

“This is our major fundraiser,” Loureiro said of the football team. “This helps pay for much of our safety equipment, helmets, pads.”

Players will be selling the cards around the community between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Thursday.

“A lot have already been pre-sold,” Loureiro added. “If you aren’t contacted on Thursday but want a card, call me at the high school.”

Loureiro can be reached at 838-7073, ext. 7027. The football team will travel to Modesto on Friday night for their first preseason game, the varsity squad taking on the Enochs Eagles in a 7 p.m. game at Downey High School. The JV team kicks off the evening with a 5 p.m. game start.
