With the help of the Escalon-Farmington Community Garden Club members and some UC Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, Collegeville Elementary School students got to celebrate the dedication of a new garden at a Friday morning ceremony. Welcoming the student body was Principal George Megenney, who said it is important for the students to learn about where their food comes from; a sentiment echoed by the Garden Club and UC representatives. The produce grown in the garden can be shared by the students and all will also have a chance to work in the garden. Helping to kick off the ‘ground breaking’ ceremony was Student Leadership team member Luis Mora, tossing a cup of dirt into a main planter. All the students in attendance had a chance to add some dirt to the planter and learned a little bit about those items already growing in the new school garden.
