Congratulations to Judy Scheppmann. On September 20th, the San Joaquin/Stanislaus Cattlewomen honored Judy Scheppmann by selecting her as the 2011 Cattlewoman of the year. Judy was raised in Oregon and graduated from Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon. This was a beginning of a 50-year career in nursing. All through the years, Judy yearned for the country life and finally found a little place in Linden to raise two children, Susie and Eric. The place came with some old dairy crossbred cows and that was her entry into the cattle business. She learned about artificial breeding, diseases and livestock management. She participated in the cattle drives, branding, and vaccinating cattle. Judy became involved in teaching 4-H beef classes and showed cattle at the Cow Palace in San Francisco and won Grand Champion Bull at the State Fair in Sacramento. She has sold bulls at the various bull sales in California. Judy has been President of San Joaquin/Stanislaus Cattlewomen and President of the California Simmental Association. Now retired, she just completed a two-year term as President of the Linden Garden Club and is the inspiration officer for the District Garden Club. Judy and her husband Bob operate a cow-calf operation of approximately 60 mother cows east of Farmington on the Winding Creek Ranch. Judy is active in the Ag Venture and Agriculture in the Classroom programs, educating children where food comes from and the value of beef in their diet. Judy is the current San Joaquin/Stanislaus Cattlewomen director for legislative liaison and publicity chair. She plans to become involved in AgTourism and share the beauty of ranch life with other non-farm folks.

The Farmington Methodist Church Bazaar was held Saturday, October 8. The members had been very busy making cookies, candy, assorted breads, cakes and pies. They also had made several different types of soup. They served Broccoli Cheese, Vegetable, Chicken Tortilla and Dutch Soup with meatballs. In the bazaar area, they were selling handmade items such as jewelry, pillowcases, tea towels, Christmas decorations and much more. They also sold raffle tickets for a quilt that was donated by Carrie Chiappe. Congratulations to Bill and Roberta Agusto of Escalon, for winning the beautiful quilt.
