Katherine Nissen of Escalon was crowned as the District 5 Dairy Princess at Isadore's Restaurant on Thursday night, June 26.

Nissen, 18, is the daughter of Dana and Grace Nissen of Escalon. A graduate of Escalon High School, she is attending California State University, Stanislaus. She has been active in FFA, Key Club and student government. Her hobbies include showing dairy cattle, coaching and playing basketball and working on the family dairy.

Amanda Sailors, 17, is the daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth Sailors of Galt and was the runner-up.

Nissen will represent the dairy industry in the counties of El Dorado, Sacramento, Amador, Alpine, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Yolo and San Joaquin. She will serve as an ambassador for the dairy industry at schools, service groups and on radio and television. The newly selected princess and her alternate will participate in a week of training, provided by the California Milk Advisory Board, which includes industry tours, presentation training and grooming and personal appearance tips.

On hand to crown her successor was the outgoing princess, Michelle Stuyt - also of Escalon - who represented the district for the past year.
