With a hike of 9.9 cents per gallon, average gasoline prices in Modesto were recorded at $5.60/gallon on Sept. 7, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 23.5 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.24/gallon higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $5.19/gallon while the most expensive was $6.29, a difference of $1.10/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $4.09 while the highest was $7.99, a difference of $3.90/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has risen 2.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.09/gallon. The national average is up 10.6 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 90.8 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

“Average gasoline prices rose in nearly three out of five states over the last week, while diesel surged in every state — with some climbing nearly 50 cents per gallon in just seven days,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “The milestone many hoped to avoid arrived: the national average price of gasoline on Labor Day set a new all-time record for the holiday, eclipsing the previous mark of $3.83 per gallon set in 2012.”

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $5.59/gallon, up 10.0 cents from last week’s $5.49; Oakland - $5.81, up 12.2 cents from $5.69; and San Jose - $5.83/gallon, up 17.2 cents from last week’s $5.65/gallon.
