Early October Events Abound In Community
esc city

The first weekend in October will bring a couple of popular local favorites back to Escalon.

First, it’s the annual citywide Yard Sale, which is on the schedule for Saturday, Oct. 5. This year marks the 27th year for the event, which gives residents the opportunity to host sales, advertise them on a citywide map and sell off some unwanted items.

Sale hours are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 5; residents that want their address listed should contact City Hall at 209-691-7400 or stop by at 2060McHenry Ave.

There is a $5 fee to have your address listed; the form must be turned in to City Hall by Wednesday, Oct. 2. Maps with all the addresses will be available at local businesses and City Hall beginning Thursday, Oct. 3.

The sale typically brings in a crowd of shoppers, many coming from the Bay area or Sacramento for the massive one day communitywide sale.

Also, the Escalon Chamber of Commerce will host its Sunday in the Park event the next day, on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day will feature the seventh annual Homemade Costume Contest along with free pumpkin carving, music, games, prizes and more.

The pumpkins will be supplied; carving will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the costume contest is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., with prizes for different age groups.

Van Groningen and Sons has donated pumpkins to be used this year. The historical caboose in Main Street Park will be open for tours, there will be an antique car Halloween Decorating Contest and freshly popped popcorn will be available.

All are encouraged to attend this free family-friendly event in the city’s Main Street Park on Sunday, Oct. 6.
