The first of the season local holiday bazaars was a huge success for the Escalon United Methodist Church this past weekend.

Hosting their annual bazaar at the end of October, organizers say they are one of the earliest and shoppers were eager to see what types of items were available for sale at the Oct. 28 event.

Doors opened at the church at the corner of Highway 120 and Brayton in Escalon at 9 a.m. and the crowd was already there, said organizers. Many did some shopping and then came back a little later in the day to enjoy the soup and pie luncheon.

There were homemade jams and jellies, ready-to-bake homemade pies, fudge, biscotti, plenty of handmade crafts including a wide selection of holiday ornaments, woodworking projects such as dinosaurs and wooden puzzles, embroidered towels and unique storytime pillows, which included a book tucked in to the pillow for holiday gift giving.

The café was set up in a portion of the church meeting room, with lots of tables for diners, while the other half featured the bazaar items.

Escalon has a few holiday-themed bazaars during the season; with the Escalon United Methodist Church one now concluded, the next one will be the Kris Kringle Market. That will be this Saturday, Nov. 4 at Saron Lutheran Church on North Street.

RED HATS
Taking time to shop and dine on Saturday, Oct. 28 were some ladies of the Red Hat Society, with these members out of Valley Springs. Pastor Peggy Bosch, second from right, is a member of the group as well as pastor at Escalon United Methodist Church, where the bazaar and luncheon were hosted.
