Hoping to draw a larger audience by putting on a high-profile play, Escalon High School's Drama Club will take to the stage this week, putting on the Bram Stoker classic 'Dracula.'

Senior Ryan Campbell has the title role with others in the cast including Sara Castledine as Monica, Taylor Huntley as Grecka, Elizabeth Mendonca as Lisa and Garrett Fosmark as Jonathan Harker, just to name a few. Others have been busy behind the scenes, getting sets ready and props prepared for the weekend performances.

"Our thought was that we wanted to do something that had name recognition, to draw a bigger crowd," said Drama Club advisor and show producer Jason Collinsworth, a teacher at the high school. "The kids had been wanting to do this (Dracula) ever since I took over so we found a version that was not too indecent."

About 20 students have roles on the stage, with another half dozen working on he stage crew. Assisting Collinsworth is Shelley Hesse, a longterm sub at the school.

Senior Thor Swann is serving as student director for this production and has had roles in several previous drama club performances.

"Everybody's getting along real good, getting their lines down and working well together," Swann said at a Friday afternoon practice.
