Donations being sought to support Sober Grad

Seniors graduating this year from Escalon and Vista high schools as well as Gateway Charter Academy will have the chance to enjoy a Sober Grad night, scheduled on Friday, May 29.

The after-graduation party for seniors is hosted on the EHS campus and runs from 9:30 p.m. on May 29 to 3 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, providing a safe and secure environment for students to enjoy their las night of high school together.

“The hypnotist and the prizes wrap it up,” coordinator Krysten Lial explained.

The cost is $50 per student and that is all inclusive. Lial said they are doing well with getting volunteers signed up to work at the event, but they are in still need of donations.

“It’s the mostly the monetary donations,” Lial said, with checks payable to EHS Sober Grad being accepted at Escalon High School, Attn: Sober Grad, 1528 Yosemite Ave., Escalon, CA 95320.

Also needed are $10 gift cards to fast food restaurants, coffee shops, yogurt stores and the like.

The goal continues to be making sure every senior attending goes home with some sort of prize, whether it is cash, a gift card, or one of the many larger items offered.

There are also the traditional Sober Grad activities to look forward to, Lial said, with games, photo booth, food, music and more featured throughout the evening. The popular hypnotist show serves as the finale.

The Sober Grad committee did host a pizza night fundraiser previously which Lial said was successful and they are also partnering with the local Lumberyard Cellars for a special event on Thursday, May 21. The ‘Sip for Sober Grad’ night is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and there will be live music, a silent auction, Bingo, food truck, along with wine, sangria slushies, beer and mocktails.

Lumberyard Cellars will be donating a portion of wine sales by the glass and bottle back to the Sober Grad program.

“It’s not a ticketed event, just kind of an open house, a community night,” Lial said.
