Annual Citywide Sale Upcoming

Like it has been for the past several years, the first Saturday in October will see quite a crowd gathering in Escalon, pouring in to take advantage of a host of yard and garage sales.

Set aside as the annual Citywide Yard Sale Day, this year it falls on Saturday, Oct 3 and sales will run from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in and around the community.

Those planning to take part can still sign up to get their address listed on the map that is available to all visitors, detailing where the various sales are located. Cost is $5 to get on the map and those interested in signing up can stop by Escalon City Hall on Main Street. Deadline to get your sale listed on the map is Monday, Sept. 28 at 5 p.m.

The maps typically are available a few days prior to the event and are distributed throughout the community at restaurants and stores, up to and including the actual day of the sale.

"It is a little slower than it has been in the past," city staff member Fran Gaither said of sign ups for the map listing. "But they're trickling in."

The sale is advertised throughout the region and people have come from as far away as the Bay Area and the Mother Lode in search of treasures. Some community groups and service organizations also utilize the day as a way to fundraise, with members of the groups combining their items in a sale to benefit their specific organization.
