Newman’s West Side Theatre Serves Up Summer Sounds
West side

A series of summer shows is being offered at the West Side Theatre in Newman, kicking off Saturday, Aug. 3 and continuing through Saturday, Aug. 27.

West Side Theater is at 1331 Main St.; call 209-862-4490 for more information about any of the upcoming shows.

First up will be the performance of The Refugees/Tom Petty Tribute.

The Refugees have been entertaining Bay Area crowds since 2007, bringing the music of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers to local stages with a stunning level of realism. Voted the top tribute band in the S.F. Bay Area in 2009, their extensive song catalog includes all of Petty’s hits with the Heartbreakers as well as his solo work and other side projects like The Traveling Wilburys and Mudcrutch. Recreating all the signature guitar solos and rich vocal harmonies down to the smallest detail, The Refugees can make even die-hard Petty fans feel like they are at another Tom Petty concert.

The Aug. 10 show features Rob Ely with Elvis Through The Years. Ely is one of Northern California’s most sought after Elvis tributes. He has performed all over California and beyond including performing on the field at the Oakland Coliseum for the A’s singing the National Anthem as Elvis. He has also placed in the Top 3 in Elvis contests in Las Vegas, San Diego, Lake Tahoe, and Fresno and was crowned “Best Overall Elvis” in 2013 at the Thunder Valley Casino.

Tom Rigney and Flambeau takes the stage on Saturday, Aug. 17. Rigney’s band of all stars simmers and cooks with musical intelligence. Their high energy live show features tight ensemble playing, deeply infectious grooves, and rich soloing. Renowned guitarist Danny Caron, boogie queen Caroline Dahl, Steve Parks on bass and Brent Rapone on drums have carved evocative and powerfully uplifting music.

Finally, on Aug. 24, it will be Skynnyn Lynnyrd entertaining the crowd. Skynnyn Lynnyrd has committed the past 11-plus years building this project, learning, studying, and breaking down the classic Lynyrd Skynyrd songs. The group is committed to carrying on and performing the original music in the exact same manner it was played and performed by the great Lynyrd Skynyrd. As a tribute band, they are recognized by many of the top promoters as “The Best Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute” in the country.

Skynnyn Lynnyrd is: Larry Woodruff, Curt Posthuma, Chris Durham, Jason Miller, Brad Andersohn, Wade Olson, Mike Klepic, Debra Lee Andersohn and Heather Rose.
