Wrapping up their season, members of the 10 and Under Girls Softball All-Star squad from Escalon recently made a trip to Concord.

Manager Jennifer Morado, and coaches Crystal Ballard and Phil Terry took the team of 10 and Under all-stars to Concord for the weekend tournament in mid-July.

The event started off with team competitions: Around-the-Horn, Hand-off Relay and Bunting.

In the Hand-off Relay, the Escalon girls took first place with the fastest time out of five teams and received trophies. Jesika Ortega, Serena Martinez, Julie Victorino, Marisa Terry and Sierra Lyman made up the hand-off squad.

Games started Friday, July 18 and the girls played hard that day and won their first game of the tournament by a 10-2 final.

Pitchers worked hard all four games the girls played in the season-ending tourney, with Natalie Arnold and Justine Lawrence taking the mound. Kendelle Messersmith caught two games with no break and did a wonderful job, according to coaches. Jaylyne Serpa also strapped on the gear for a couple of games and handled the catching duties.
