It's tough to take down a perennial power, let alone trying to take that power out in their home gym.

The road to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV finals ended for Escalon's Lady Cougars varsity volleyball team at Christian Brothers in a Tuesday night, Nov. 17 contest. The varsity girls couldn't get past their semifinal opponent, losing in three games.

Coupled with the Ripon sweep of Summerville in the other semifinal, it set up the finals rematch of Ripon vs. Christian Brothers. That Thursday night contest, Nov. 19, went to defending Section champion Christian Brothers by a 3-2 final.

Top-rated Christian Brothers just had too many weapons for Escalon to counteract in the semifinal contest. Though the number four seed Lady Cougars gave a solid effort, the host squad had an answer for every Escalon move. Unable to get much going offensively, the girls were shut out by the powerful Christian Brothers squad. Though it was a disappointing end, the Lady Cougars had a hugely successful season, with a 13-2 mark in Trans-Valley League play, good for second place, their only losses coming to Ripon. TVL champ Ripon went 14-1, with Escalon spoiling their perfect record with a win against the Indians in the second of three contests they played during the regular season.
