Skies were cloudy and temperatures were more conducive to a hockey game, but Escalon’s varsity soccer girls warmed up the crowd with a win at home on Thursday, Jan. 11.

The squad took a 6-3 victory off the field against Hughson, opening up a big first half lead, 5-1.

Scoring for Escalon were Rayah McNulty and Raegan Baker with two goals apiece, one each from Katelyn Rodriguez and Soraya Aguayo, said coach Jeremy Titsworth. Notching assists were Yareli Cervantes, Hannah Wampler and Katelyn Rodriguez.

It was a satisfying win in Trans-Valley League play for the varsity girls, as goals and wins have been hard to come by in the early going this season.

The JV girls, meanwhile, fell to the visiting Lady Huskies by a 4-3 final in their game on Thursday.

“It was a tough loss, we were up 3-1 at the half,” said coach Lindsay Plascencia.

She said her team did a good job talking in the first half, as well as utilizing great passing to get the lead.

“We just fell apart in the second half and that played a big factor in our loss,” the coach admitted.

Rebecca Wampler scored a pair of goals, Leah Nelson had one.

“She has really made her presence felt on the field,” the coach said of Nelson, who converted on a free kick for her score.

“It was a beautiful shot,” Plascencia said.  “She hit the top right-hand corner, couldn’t be more proud of her.”
