Track And Field Finals Earn Silver
track

Escalon High senior Zach Pickett earned two silver medals at the area’s Sac-Joaquin Section track and field meet finals at Chavez High School in Stockton Friday, May 10. Pickett ran a personal best of 49.06 in the 400 meters placing second, and 22.38 in the 200 meters for another second place finish. Pickett’s 400m race was almost a full second faster than his previous best time.

“He ran well, got out quick and finished strong. Breaking 50 seconds has been a goal all season, it was exciting to see it finally happen,” said head coach Carrie Nash. Pickett finished his night by anchoring the boys 4x400 meters to a seventh place finish and helping them post their fastest time of 3:34.45.

Garrett Nash, Alex Jimenez, Juan Lopez along with Zach Pickett bettered their best time by almost two seconds. “The boys put forth an outstanding effort, their time was four seconds faster than what they had run on Wednesday in preliminaries. We were hoping that running under 4:35 would move them on to Masters, but unfortunately the field was just too strong,” said Nash. The top five athletes in each event qualify to compete at the Masters meet Friday May 17 at Elk Grove High School.
