Ten games in to their season, Escalon's JV basketball girls have compiled a mark of 8-2 and been involved in two tournaments.

"We got third in the Escalon Lions Club Tournament and at East Union, we took second," said coach Andrew Beam. "At home, we beat Waterford, lost to Ripon Christian and beat Central Catholic in the third place game. At East Union, we beat Manteca and East Union, then lost to Ripon in the championship to take second place."

They were also busy this past week, taking on Chavez, Waterford and Bear Creek.

"It was a good measuring stick to see where we are," said Beam.

The squad has seven sophomores and three freshmen, with captains Melissa Mullins and Kristin Beckman the sophomores that were with the JV last year as freshmen.

In action this week they defeated Chavez by a 39-19 score, paced by Beckman with 13 points. Easily outdistancing Waterford, the JV girls were 52-14 victors, with Mullins scoring 10 points. Against Bear Creek, Beckman had 12 points in leading the team to a 42-33 win. Beckman and freshman Justine Lawrence received All Tournament honors at the East Union tourney.

"They are a really athletic group, fast and athletic all the way around, I think it's going to be a good year," Beam said.
