Track and field athletes for Escalon High School had a busy week, taking advantage of a couple breaks in the weather to get in events. First, it was the Trans-Valley League relays, followed by the Calaveras Invitational.

“The TVL Relays meet was a great meet. All teams in the league were represented with a large number of athletes,” head coach Carrie Nash said of the March 15 competition. “Our kids performed well. Athletes in the top three earned medals and we had a few earning hardware.”

Escalon traveled to the event with a roster of 55 kids to compete in varsity and open divisions.

Highlights are as follows:

Varsity Boys 4x100 3rd- (L. Anderson, J. Graham, T. Reider, O. Nash) 46.10

Varsity Boys Discus 4th Owen Nash 110.5

Varsity Boys High Jump 1st Owen Nash 5'10", 3rd Logan Anderson 5'10

Varsity Boys Long Jump 3rd Logan Anderson 19'9"

Varsity Girls 4x400 3rd (L. Rodriguez, M. Fahey, A. Silveira, K. Rodriguez)

Varsity Girls HJ 5th Sammy Lang 4'2"

Varsity Girls Discus 4th Chloe Farley 78'9", 6th Cortney Ball 75'6.5"

The girls team finished third overall and boys were fifth.

“The Calaveras Invite is typically a frosh/soph meet but they opened it for all levels this year,” Nash added of the Saturday, March 18 event. Athletes placing in the top five earned medals. “Our varsity boys 4x100 team earned first place and bettered their time by almost a second, the boys definitely improved their handoff and I think that made a big difference. Owen Nash was first in the high jump, jumping 6'0" giving him a solid mark for the TVL. The girls frosh/soph 4x100 also earned a medal taking second place, the girls ran really well together.”

For the invitational, the Cougars traveled with a larger squad than to the TVL relays, as they had fewer limitations in events.
