Soccer Girls Net Varsity Win

Only one game was on the schedule this week for Escalon's varsity Lady Cougars soccer team and they made the most of it, taking a win.

"We won 2-1," said coach Craig Humrichouse. "We scored three goals and won 2-1. We were very generous."

Escalon notched two goals of their own and inadvertently gave host Amador one when miscommunication between the goalie and a defender resulted in a ball deflecting off the keeper and into the net for an Amador score.

"It was just one of those things but it didn't hurt us, didn't cost us," Humrichouse said. "There was just some miscommunication between the sweeper and the goalie."

For Escalon, Tiana Garcia scored the first goal of the afternoon, on an assist from Kacey Ball.

"Kacey ran out to the wing, Tiana moved to the center, then Kacey crossed it back into her, they kind of crossed up the Amador defense and Tiana finished it," Humrichouse said.

At half-time, the Lady Cougars were up 1-0. They added another goal in the second half, this one from Leia Perruquet with an assist from Kaity Bojorquez.

"It was a nice play where Kaity had the ball in the center, Leia finished it up from the halfback position," explained Humrichouse.

Though down a few players, trying to mend some nagging injuries, Humrichouse said the team played well at Amador.

"It was never really in question," he said of the win.

Natalie Gallego had one save in the first half, Chelsea Fachner was in the net for the second half and made three saves.

The girls will be on the road for their Trans-Valley League opener, playing at Ripon Christian on Friday, March 19. They will be at Riverbank on Wednesday, March 24 and then play their first league game at home on Friday, March 26 against Hilmar.
