Section Tournament Closes Season’s Play For Golf Girls

A less than stellar finish for the season saw the Escalon Lady Cougars play at the Division 5 Section Tournament on Oct. 21.

They played at the par 72 Auburn Valley Golf Course and came away with a team score of 586.

Low scores came from Ella Adams and Lucy Allbaugh, each carding a 107, followed by Mikayla Schut, 114; Kara Kennedy, 123; Ella MacKinnon, 135.

“Bear Creek won and Ripon was second,” coach Kristie Cathcart said of the Section competition.

No one from Escalon qualified to move on to the Divisionals.

“We ended up fifth out of 11 teams. High score (at the D5 tournament) was 180, low score was 84. We did not do horrible, but some of the girls were disappointed in their scores,” admitted Cathcart. “The course was really long, pretty wide open and the greens were very challenging.”

And though the season ended on somewhat of a low note, with no golfers moving on, Cathcart said that, overall, the team “had a great season.”
