Back on the winning track in Trans-Valley League play, Escalon’s varsity Lady Cougars soundly defeated Hilmar in Tuesday afternoon action, April 12 by a 4-1 final.
The scoring was spread around, a fact that pleased head coach Jamie Peoples, with many players contributing in the victory.
“Angelica Fernandez scored with an assist from Kaitlyn Jamie, Morgan Dominguez scored with a Skilar Cook assist,” Peoples noted. “Vanessa Kualapai had a goal and an assist, Alondra Martinez had a goal and an assist.”
Sarah Leal notched five saves in goal, allowing just one Lady Yellowjackets shot to get past her as the varsity squad took the victory.
They had a bye on Thursday and ended the week at 3-2-1 in league play, due to start second half action on the road Tuesday, April 19 at Riverbank after The Times went to press. They will be back home on Thursday, April 21 to host Ripon in a 4 p.m. contest.
Junior Varsity
In their lone game of the week, the JV soccer girls doubled up opponent Hilmar, 4-2.
The home game on Tuesday, April 12 saw Escalon get all four goals from just two players.
“Kyleigh Rafferty scored three and Daisy Camacho scored on a penalty kick,” explained JV coach Jen Schmidt.
Kaitlyn Castro, Camacho and Alexa Gomez each had one assist.
“Maritsa Torres played goalie the first half and then Lily Franks played goalie the second half,” Schmidt noted.
The girls are scheduled to play at home this week, hosting Ripon in a Thursday afternoon game, April 21 at 4 p.m.
