Action this past week in the Trans-Valley League for Escalon’s varsity Lady Cougars saw the girls tie one and lose one, failing to notch a TVL victory.
They battled Modesto Christian to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday, hosting the Lady Crusaders.
Morgan Dominguez notched the lone goal, with the assist from Skilar Cook. Goalkeeper Sarah Leal made eight saves.
The squad suited up for a road game on Thursday, taking on the Hughson Lady Huskies and falling in a closely contested 2-1 loss. It was the same scoring duo for Escalon in the Thursday game, Dominguez putting it in the net with the assist going to Cook. Leal had nine saves on the day.
They were scheduled to host Hilmar in Tuesday action, April 12, after The Times went to press. They will face off with Riverbank next Tuesday, April 19.
Junior Varsity
Taking the field for just the game with Hughson this week (MC does not field a JV squad), Escalon’s JV girls came away with an impressive 6-0 shutout win. Scoring the hat trick was Kyleigh Rafferty, putting in three goals; Kaitlyn Castro scored two and Daisy Camacho tallied one.
“Our team has improved greatly from the beginning of preseason,” said JV head coach Jen Schmidt. “We are working hard and doing our best to be a successful team this season.”
