Just one Trans-Valley League match was on the schedule for the Cougar tennis team this past week. They hosted and defeated Ripon, 5-4, in the Thursday afternoon contest.

Taking wins on the court were the girls singles, number one Taylor Laugero winning 6-0, 6-0 and number two Josie Redberg crafting a 6-1, 6-0 win.

“Josie had the deciding match,” coach Staci Diaz said of Redberg’s win sealing the league victory.

Boys singles saw number one Everardo Peralta fall 1-6, 3-6 and number two Michael Medina lost in a 6-7 (2), 2-6 battle.

Boys doubles David Martinez and Trenton Busch had a three set loss, 7-5, 3-6, 4-6 while number two doubles Tommy Pangan and Fabricio Gallo – playing together for the first time – came away with a 6-0, 6-4 win.

In girls doubles play, Mia DeVecchio and Nicole Sarkozy battled their Ripon counterparts, ultimately falling 7-6 (5), 4-6, 4-6.

Allison Rigg teamed with Brooklyn Berry for a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win in number two girls doubles and the mixed doubles pairing of Jairo Duran with Courtney Ney put together a 6-1, 7-5 win.

“Brooklyn Berry and Allison Rigg played a solid match until the end. The second set was close, but they stayed focused and finished it,” Diaz noted. “Fabricio Gallo played his first match with Tommy Pangan, and they made a great team.”
