Recent action on the lanes at McHenry Bowl saw Tupperware & Travel go 35-25 for the top spot in the weekly El Portal bowling league. They were followed by Memorial Splitting Headaches, 34½-25½; Bartelink Dairy, 34-26; Farm Girls, Escalon Body & Frame, 31-29; Foxy Ladies, 29½-30 ; Dutch Girls, 27-33; Borba Dairy, 17-43.
Rolling the high scores for the week were Ginger Serpa, 178 scratch game, 246 handicap game, 649 handicap series; and Mary Panero, 446 scratch series.
The second half winner for the El Portal Bowling League was Tupperware & Travel and they had to face first half winner Farm Girls in a roll off for the league’s top spot. Farm Girls came away with the win, taking first place overall this season for the El Portal league. Tupperware & Travel finished second overall.
Team members for Farm Girls included Carol DeKok, Stacy Lub and Kelly Homen while Tupperware & Travel team members were Mary Panero, Brandy Ramczyk and Louise Spurgeon.
Overall winners for the season in the individual categories included Kelly Homen (Farm Girls) with a 158.55 average and a 564 scratch series; Erlene Price (Foxy Ladies) with a 689 handicap series; Ginger Serpa (Escalon Body & Frame) with a 268 handicap game; Barbara Webb (Foxy Ladies) with a 223 scratch game; and Brandy Ramczyk (Tupperware & Travel) for most improved, 11-plus pins.
The league’s 2016-17 season will start on Sept. 8 at McHenry Bowl in Modesto. Meeting is at 9:15 a.m. and bowling starts at 10 a.m.
All women are invited to bowl with the El Portal League and earn money to send El Portal students to Science Camp.
“We raised $1,500 this season,” said league secretary/treasurer Janice Alcantor. “Thank you to all our bowlers and McHenry Bowl for contributing $220.”
You don’t have to be an experienced bowler to join in, take a couple hours on a Thursday and socialize with your friends and bowl for a good cause.
