Fall Athletes Rack Up School, League Recognition
V SOCCER
Taking home honors for their efforts on the varsity soccer field this season were, from left, Chapman Mello, best midfielder; Jorge Galvan, Jake Gutierrez, co- defensive MVPs; Juan Vazquez, team MVP. All four were also first team All Trans-Valley League selections.

Now that all fall sports have come to a close at Escalon High School for the 2014 season, awards have been given out to participants in all fields of play. The fall sports slate at EHS includes football, volleyball, cross country, boys soccer and girls golf. At the recent Fall Sports Awards Night, attendees learned that of the 222 athletes taking part in a sport during the fall semester, 137 of them achieved ‘scholar athlete’ status with a 3.0 or above grade point average. Principal Dave Lattig also said 83 students had a 3.5 or above GPA and 31 fall athletes maintained a GPA of 4.0 or above while taking part in their sport.

Escalon High athletic director Mark Loureiro also praised the continued hard work of the Escalon Sports Boosters, which operates the snack bar and hosts an annual Dinner-Dance-Auction to benefit all sports at the school, with everything from new scoreboards to uniforms, travel expenses and more. The Boosters will also be hosting their ‘Parking Lot Sale’ on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the tennis courts adjacent to the school gym, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with sales of a variety of ‘Cougar’ merchandise just in time for holiday gift giving.

Honors were presented in all sports and at a variety of levels, from freshman to JV to varsity, at the recent awards night. Shown below are some photos from the special evening.
