Escalon Wrestling Club continues its busy schedule as the 2017-18 regular season winds down. Club members competed in the TOC qualifier recently at Summerville High School.

In session 1 in the 5-6 year old division Brady Krasco took fourth. The division continued with Liam Ginger, Freddy Velasco, and Johnny Van Dyk all just missing out on titles taking second place.

In the 7-8 year old division always improving Noah Dooley finished fourth with Athena Quiroz having a tough morning taking third. Continuing his solid season Tyler Powell finished in second place having a great season. Taking home titles were first year wrestlers Dalton Shinn and former state placer Ramon Hinojosa.

In session 2 the Escalon Wrestling Club had a very impressive showing that coaches Furtado and Costa were very pleased with. Taking solid thirds were Malakai Coble, Dalton Shinn, and Mikey Bell. Taking a hard fought second place was Preston Berhorst. Coming home with impressive titles were first year wrestler Mikey Bell, former state qualifier Logan Dooley, former two time state placer and final three time Luca Cerasi Also taking first was two time state finalist and 2016 state champion, Alex Gutierrez.

In the tough 11-12 division placing third place was three time state qualifier Christian Rowe. Continuing his excellent comeback season, Talen Reider took second place. Taking home titles in the 11-12 and 13-15 year old heavyweight divisions was former two time state medalist Sammy Hinojosa.

Escalon Wrestling Club President, Derek Scott, stated that the coaches are very pleased with the progress, as wrestlers came away with eight titles.

“The coaches, wrestlers, and parents are all doing a great job making this a successful season,” Scott said.

Wrestlers have a tournament in Oakdale coming up on Feb. 25.

Other events scheduled for the wrestlers include the Nor Cal Folk Style Tournament of Champions at Escalon High School on Sunday, March 11 with weigh-ins Saturday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at Escalon High School, with wrestling beginning Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

EWC will host its annual all you can rib and oyster feed at the Escalon Community Center on Saturday, April 28. Look for additional information about that event in upcoming issues of The Times.
