Scholarship Golf Tournament Yields Winning Foursome

The foursome of Erick Herren, Karl Herren, Jon Lekar and Lee Herren took first place honors with a final score of 52 in the Peter Arellano Athletic Scholarship Golf Tournament, hosted at Escalon Golf Course.

They were able to best the second place team by just one stroke. Runner-up honors, with a score of 53, went to a squad made up of Escalon High School golfers, Zack Gardner, Nick Toy, Brandan Trammell and Andrew Alcantor.

Third place went to the team that carded the highest score, made up of Tina Jensen, Heidi Rech, Nancy Serpa and Clare Goldstein.

In the various competitions, closest to the hole winners were Lee Herren on hole two, 12 feet, nine inches; Brandan Trammel on hole three, seven feet, seven inches; Erick Herren, hole four, 17 feet, six inches; Bill Douglas, hole nine, nine feet. On hole seven, the longest drive honors went to Erick Herren.

There were also many prizes awarded through drawings, donated by local merchants.

“This year our scholarship recipients were Kelly Brown and Giovanni Hermosillo, and they were there to present awards to the various winners,” explained chairman Peter Arellano, a retired teacher and coach at Escalon High. “Thanks to all our participants and helpers.”

Items for the drawings were contributed by Ace Hardware, Escalon Feed & Supply, The Big Dipper, Escalon Premier Brands, Big Boy Market, Rosa’s Bakery and Wong’s Chinese Deli. Also, True Value, Rice Bowl Express, Escalon Lumber, Swift Lawn and Garden, DaSilva Dairy Ranch, Tina and Gale Jensen, Scott Page and Peter Arellano.

Hole sponsors and advertisements were provided by HMI-Mark Hogan, D’Boni’s Pizza, Pizza Plus, Escalon Golf, Hula’s Drive In, Big Boy, MarVal Market, Donut Shack, Sipma’s Insurance, Hashem Naraghi Real Estate, Andrea Johnson-Rite Aid, Bahrt Arellano-Macy’s, Richard Miller and Marty Moreno Painting.
