Del Rio CC pulled away from the pack recently in Monterey to capture the NCGA Central Valley Zone Championship. The team of Richard Deponte, Dennis Culbertson, Tim Speer and Don Barbe finished the event carding 44-under-par 242 to clinch the title in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. Del Rio CC finished the first round with a 19-under-par, in a four-way tie for fourth place. The team got off to a good start in the final round with four consecutive net eagles. After the turn they had six net eagles sealing their victory over the field.

Escalon GC finished in second place after an outstanding first round at Del Monte GC. Comprised of Jess Bradley, Tom McCarthy, Brad Haskin and Glen Shaw, Escalon GC started the competition firing an impressive team score of 23-under-par 121 at Del Monte GC. The foursome combined for two net double eagles, eight net eagles and four net birdies, to go along with a net bogey and net double bogey.

Their opening round was enough to take home silver as they finished the final round carding 129. Escalon GC had three consecutive eagles on Holes 14, 15 and 16 at Quail Lodge GC.

Del Rio CC and Escalon GC advance to the 47th Annual NCGA Zone Championship at Spyglass Hill GC and Del Monte GC on Aug. 26 and 27.

Also playing in the Central Valley championships were teams from Manteca GC, Creekside GC, Swenson Park GC, Rancho Del Rey GC, Elkhorn GC, Diablo Grande GC, Old River GC and Rio Vista GC in addition to Del Rio and Escalon.
