Escalon's annual Wing T football camp, for all incoming freshmen through seniors, will be hosted on the campus of Escalon High School this week, Friday through Sunday, June 8 through 10.

"We expect well over 300 kids, we will have eight schools there," said Escalon High School varsity head football coach and athletic director Mark Loureiro. "This camp has always been a good part of our success, it's a way to get nine quick practices in."

East Coast head coaches from a variety of colleges and universities staff the camp, led by Steve Verbit.

"We've lowered the camp fee to $125 and we expect to have 40-plus kids there from Escalon," added Loureiro.

Schools sending players include Beyer, Granada, Galt, Jefferson High School out of Daly City and Kelseyville, among others.

The camp covers all aspects of the Wing T offense the Cougars use in their game plan, with special breakout sessions for offense and defense.

New this year, added Loureiro, is a special youth camp.

"We're offering that by demand," the coach explained. "That will be a non-contact camp, covering offensive and defensive skills, team concepts and plays used in the Wing T."

The youth camp cost is $95 and it will be offered Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 11, 12 and 13.

Aimed primarily at the local Outlaws youth football players, Loureiro said players will be put in age and skill appropriate groupings for the camp.

Also, though it's early, he advised local athletes that the Sports Physicals Night for those wanting to play sports during the 2012-2013 school year at Escalon will be Tuesday, July 31.

First day of practices for fall sports teams will be Monday, Aug. 6 though school doesn't start until Monday, Aug. 20.

All athletes need to report for the first day of practice in order to be eligible for the team.
