The 12-year-old Oakdale Baseball Association All Star Team didn't escape their host Cal Ripken Central California District 1 Tournament with championship honors or a trip to the state championship, but they did earn some bragging rights over Escalon.

Oakdale edged the local Escalon All Stars 9-8 in the final tournament game on June 25.

The team from Lodi won the tournament and will move on to the state championship in Fresno.

Escalon coach Rick Faria was pleased with his team's performance against Oakdale and in the tournament in general, refusing to go quietly.

"We are always battling - coming back in our game against Oakdale - scoring in the sixth and (we) had the winning run on base," Faria said.

The Escalon All Stars were led by Eric Campbell and Edwardo Marrufo in the tournament. Campbell had four hits in six at-bats including a home run. Marrufo had four hits in four trips including a grand slam home run. Justice Naraghi was 2-for-3.
