Though their trip was shorter than they had hoped, the 11-12 year-old baseball All Stars from Escalon got a taste of some outstanding competition as they made the first appearance by a Cal Ripken squad from Escalon in the State Tournament.

Locally, there were several businesses and individuals that donated money to help with the cost of the tournament including Emil's, Swift Lawn and Garden, Escalon Body & Frame, Warren and Lucille Dunn, Hula's, JD Financial and Marino and Sandy Valenzuela.

Traveling to Fresno, the team arrived on Wednesday for check-in, enjoying the opening ceremonies for the tournament on Thursday and faced off with Valley nemesis Tracy in their first round game on Friday.

Manager Jason Dimas, coaches Harry Davis and Jim Dimas accompanied the team.

"We gave up one run to Tracy in the first and held them to that for the first couple of innings," assistant coach Jim Dimas said of the opener with Tracy. "In the third, things fell apart a bit for us, they scored six runs. They scored another four in the fourth."
