It has been a solid start to the Trans-Valley League season for Escalon’s co-ed tennis team.

They shut out Livingston by a 9-0 final, got past a tough Riverbank team 5-4, and then defeated Millennium 8-1.

Key returners for the varsity are Kali Castellanos at number one girls singles and Marina Franzia for number two girls singles. Emma Rangel and Paloma Lara return to form the number one girls doubles team. At number two girls doubles are Carolina Sandoval and Ashlyn Paxman.

Landon Underwood is filling the number one boys singles slot with Nathan Rose at number two boys singles. Daniel Adams and Luca Cerasi are teaming up for boys number one doubles and Logan Wentzell is anchoring the boys number two singles team.

Key newcomers are Cooper Fugett at boys number two doubles with Violet Da Silva and Maddox Neilson playing mixed doubles.

The team continues league play this week; they were scheduled to face off with Ripon on March 19 and take the court against Hughson on Friday, March 22.

BOYS GOLF

Getting on the links for their first Trans-Valley Legue tournament of the season on Thursday, March 14, the varsity golf boys finished fourth overall as a team. The tournament was hosted at the par 62 River Oaks Course in Ceres.

“Individually, Brenden Berchtold shot a 76 which was good for sixth place in league out of 36 players,” said head coach Brandon Hoover. “Matix Trimble shot an 87 which was good for 15th place.”

Each team is scheduled to host a league tournament during the season; Escalon served as the host team on March 18  at Oakdale Golf and Country Club
