In a season highlighted by the 600th coaching win for longtime varsity baseball coach Bob Loureiro in Escalon, there were plenty of individual performances worthy of recognition.

"For the year, Jesse Miguel was our leading hitter, he had a batting average of .436, one of the highest averages ever at Escalon High, if not the highest, and he had 41 hits, which is a record," Loureiro pointed out of his speedy lead-off man. "He had 21 RBIs, eight doubles, three home runs and had 22 stolen bases."

Miguel also scored 41 runs for the Cougars.

Center fielder K.J. Vandagriff hit .409 for the season and anchored the outfield defense.

"He had 36 hits and led us in RBIs with 35," said Loureiro. "He had 12 doubles and three homers."

Vandagriff and Miguel, first team All-League selections, were also named as players for the county All-Star game that will be played at Delta College in Stockton on Friday, June 18 at 6 p.m., following the girls All-Star contest.

They will be joined on the roster by Zachary Swass, who compiled a 20-5 record on the mound for the Cougars over the past two years.

Also standing out for Escalon this season and named as an All-TVL player was Brian Lynn, who had 27 hits and had a .386 batting average.
