With a scrimmage against Ripon Christian under their belts, the Escalon girls golf team has started the rebuilding process.

“I have 10 girls, one senior Sylvia Guevara – she played her freshman year, but was hurt the last two years – three juniors Mikayla Schut, the only returner from last year’s varsity team, Kara Kennedy and Sarah Abraham,” explained head coach Kristie Cathcart.

Abraham has played for two years and Kennedy for one year. Also on the roster are two sophomores, Ella Adams and Ella MacKinnon, both of whom played last year. Four freshmen round out the team, Sarah Bava, Bella Ambro, Jianna Cereghino and Lily McCracken.

“This year will definitely be a rebuilding year, as Mikayla is the only one that has been to all the courses,” said Cathcart. “Last week we scrimmaged Ripon Christian at Jack Tone. I wanted the girls to play Jack Tone before we played Ripon in league.”

This week the girls were scheduled to have a scrimmage against Livingston at Rancho del Ray in Atwater.

“Livingston is new to the league (Valley Foothill League south) this year and won their league last year. I want the girls to see a good team,” said Cathcart.

They were slated to start league on Tuesday, Aug. 24 with Argonaut at home and host Waterford at home on Thursday, Aug. 25.

“There are two new teams to VFL north, Amador and Waterford,” Cathcart noted. “Bret Harte and Ripon will be the teams to beat.”

On Monday, Aug. 27, the team is scheduled to travel to play in the Merced Tournament.
