Beep Ball Team Finishes Second Season

The Stockton Sting Rays beep baseball team will have its season finale on Saturday, July 31, 10 a.m. at Oak Park in Stockton. A barbecue lunch will be served after the game to celebrate the team's second season in this exciting, growing sport.

Beep ball is a modified form of baseball adapted so that blind people may participate in the national pastime and compete at a high level. The ball and the bases contain a sound-emitting device that, when activated, allows blind players to determine the location of the ball or base. Spectators are welcome to attend the July 31 contest. Among the team members is Escalon resident Eric Scholz.

The Sting Rays are also looking for volunteers for next season. The team will make its first appearance in the national tournament next year, and the volunteer staff is vital to the team's success. Volunteer staff may serve as umpires, spotters, base operators, and in other capacities as the need may arise.

Community organizations are welcome to provide competition for the Sting Rays, or to support them financially or in other ways. Those interested in volunteering should consult the official beep ball rules by visiting the website at www.NBBA.org. To contact the team, call the Stockton Community Blind Center at 466-3836 or Scholz at 838-6870.
