Golf Girls Give Thanks

Dear Editor,

The 2014 Girls Golf season was a very exciting one for Escalon High School. The Lady Cougars finished first in the Valley-Foothill League and second at Sections, losing the Section crown by a mere nine strokes. This marked the fourth time in the last five years that the EHS Girls team has won the league championship and captured second at the section level. Building on this year’s undefeated season, our senior golfers will leave EHS with a four year, dual-match record of 65-4; a record worthy of the term “dynasty.” Despite its tardiness, we would like to acknowledge that all of this would not have been possible without the help of some very special people.

First of all, we would like to thank the Escalon Golf Course for the continued use of their facilities. As the “local’ course for many Escalon players, the Escalon Golf Course has been invaluable in the success of our programs. We call it ‘home’ and do so with pride. It is here that we have honed our games on the driving range, the putting greens and the course. We cannot express our appreciation enough to Dr. Tom Hagan and his family for their continued support. We are literally treated like royalty when we come to the course. If there is something we need, or there is something that the employees of the course can do to help us, there is never a hesitation. The kindness and congeniality of all staff members makes playing at Escalon Golf Course a true pleasure and is greatly appreciated. The interest and excitement that the Hagan family has shown in our programs helps build a sense of “community” in all our players, because they realize that they are not simply playing for themselves, or Escalon High School, but for the entire Escalon community. As we have stated before many times, we are overwhelmed by the tremendous amount of support and interest that we receive from Escalon community members when they see us practicing or playing at the course. We would also like to commend the members of the Hagan family for the continued effort in upgrading the playing, and clubhouse, facilities. The new landscaping, on-course signs, and other amenities have helped to make the Escalon Golf Course an even nicer facility on which to play and practice. Keep up the outstanding work…the EHS golf programs, and other community members, truly appreciate it!

The relationship we have with the Escalon Golf Course, and those who run it, is one that we cherish and we hope will continue long into the future. Thank you once again.

We would also like to thank all the effort, hard work, and donated time that individuals and organizations give to make the girls golf program at Escalon High School one of the best in the area. We cannot give enough thanks to people like Jerry Emery and Kristie Cathcart who gave of their time to work as volunteer assistants. Their work with our younger players has built a great foundation for future years. The caring and knowledge that Jerry and Kristie provided our players allowed for us to continue being successful.

We would also like to recognize the Escalon Sports Boosters, and many members of the community, who have generously donated equipment, balls and the “little extras” to our program that make it special for our athletes. For all that you do for Escalon High School Golf, we thank you.

It was a very special 2014 Girls Golf season. Thanks to all of you who helped make it even more special.
