Otto Berchtold

Otto A. Berchtold, 82, passed away on Thursday, April 1 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1928 and raised in Giswil, Switzerland. In his early 20's he immigrated to Canada and then to California. He worked for several dairies until finally owning his own in Herald, California.

After retiring he moved to the Escalon area. In his later years he gave up driving but continued to care for himself until about five days before his death.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews Rita and husband Gary Gorham of Stockton, Tony and wife Billy Berchtold of French Camp, Joe and wife Nellie Berchtold of Stockton, Ozzie and wife Nancy Berchtold of Stockton, and many more here and in Switzerland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his 13 brothers and sisters.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 16, at noon at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Escalon.
