Olga M. Lewis, 83 of Escalon passed away on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 in her home surrounded by loved ones.
She was born to James and Lillian Thompson on Dec. 30, 1929 in Colorado City, Texas. She resided in Escalon for most of her life. Olga was married to Thomas G. Lewis for over 66 years, until his death in 2011.
She spent her life in Escalon where she and her husband, Tom, lovingly reared their family. Family and friends were her passion and delight. Entertaining was among her favorite hobbies. Her door was open to family, friends, and friends of friends alike; she truly was a warm and gracious hostess. Mrs. Lewis made all her visitors feel at home, safe, and important. The more people around the happier she was. She also enjoyed cooking (cream pies in particular), reading, shopping and decorating her home. She is likely “already redecorating heaven.”
She and her husband were enthusiastic square dancers as young people. The focus of their life together was family, and they supported and adored their children and grandchildren unconditionally. Olga also took great pleasure in the beauty of nature, which showed in her artwork. She painted bedside until as recently as April, 2013. She was also well known for her distinctive fashion sense, dressed very stylishly with nothing overlooked for any event.
She was a dedicated matriarch with an endearing flair for the dramatic. She was a wise, witty, sweet, and steadfast person with truly amazing timing. She will always be loved and she will be missed.
Survivors include her children, Tom (Debra) Lewis of Great Falls, Montana, Vivien (Fred) Pfeifer of Modesto, Patty (Michael) Parrish of Escalon, and Nancy Lewis of Escalon; her sister Wanda Skulavik of Tyler, Texas; and numerous other loving relatives, friends and caregivers, including 12 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Philip, in addition to her husband.
A funeral service was held on Monday morning, Sept. 16 at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon. Chaplain Erin King of Community Hospice officiated. The burial was at Burwood Cemetery following the service.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Olga during her last few months. In loving memory please send donations to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356 or www.hospiceheart.org.
