Matilde E. Freitas, 93, passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, in Riverbank.

She was born on April 3, 1921, in the Acorez, Flores. She met her husband while they were neighbors in the Acorez. She was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, knitting and praying the Rosary every day. She will be lovingly remembered by her family for her detailed stories about life in Portugal.

Survivors include her eight children, Mary Gonzales of Dublin, Ines Sousa of Milpitas, Joe of Freitas of Riverbank, Matilda Freitas of San Leandro, Gilbert Freitas of Riverbank, Danny Freitas of North Carolina, Bernie Jones of Oakdale, and Ilda Waddell of Oakdale; three brothers; 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horacio A. Freitas, and her parents, Manuel Freitas and Maria Chibante.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 5 at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Riverbank followed by a Rosary and Mass at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
