Mary Perry Luis, 81, of Modesto died Thursday, May 6 at Golden Care Rest Home.

A native of Denair, she had lived in Modesto for 42 years and prior to that, lived in Escalon for 25 years. She was a graduate of Escalon High School.

She was a licensed cosmetologist for more than 50 years. She co-owned and operated Merle Norman Salon in McHenry Village. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Young Ladies Institute 179, St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Escalon, American Legion Women's Auxiliary and the Modesto Senior Citizens. She enjoyed yard work and travel.

Survivors include her son, Peter A. Luis of Modesto; brother, Manuel Perry Jr. of Modesto; sisters, Lorraine Crandal of Escalon and Alice Thomas of Modesto; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Luis.

Rosary and Mass were said Tuesday, May 11 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Burial at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
