Margaret Ann (Slavich) Droge, 88, died on Monday, Sept. 12 in Stockton after a lengthy illness.
She was born on July 18, 1923 in Sacramento. She later met Carl Robert Droge of Escalon and married him on July 7, 1945. After more than 60 years of marriage Carl passed away in 2009.
To help support her family Margaret worked outside the home, first at Hartfield's Department Store in downtown Stockton and later at Alpine Drug. At the drugstore she became a cherished neighbor, collecting a large number of good friends who would sometimes go to the store just to see her. Along the way she found the time to become a highly-skilled bowler, collecting a shelf full of awards and a legion of friends.
For several years she cared for her husband Carl as he battled Parkinson's disease. Thanks largely to her efforts he was able to live at home until the very end of his life.
She now leaves behind many family members and friends who are both saddened by her passing and grateful for having shared her life.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, David Allen (Jacki) of Tacoma, Washington, Dennis Richard (Virginia) of Stockton, Nicholas Martin (Elizabeth) of Fresno, and John William (Jennifer) of Lodi; and grandchildren Burtt, Amelia, Josh, Elyssa and Emily.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 4910 Claremont Ave., Stockton. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Parkinson's Institute and Clinical Center (www.thepi.org) in Sunnyvale.
Arrangements by Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon; there is an online guest book available for you to share your memories and condolences at www.deeganfuneralchapels.com
