Judy Lynn Martin passed away on Tuesday, April 25 in Modesto, CA, surrounded by her family. She was 76 years old. Judy was born to Guido (Pic) and Sylvia Piccoli (previous owners of the Valley Inn) in Escalon, CA, where she attended Dent Elementary and Escalon High School. Following High School, she attended MJC and received her Cosmetology License. She married Raymond Martin on April 23, 1967, they had two children and moved into her forever home in Manteca, CA in 1971. Judy dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was a born leader taking on any job that needed to be done. Volunteering at her children’s school, St. Anthony’s in Manteca, filled her days and introduced her to many amazing lifelong friends. She coached track, was a room parent, teacher’s aide, lunch lady, chaired many fundraisers, and assisted in numerous school projects and activities. She was given the unofficial title of “uniform lady”. Judy’s Motto was: “Build on what you’ve done. If you can’t take something and make it better, don’t take it on!” She continued her volunteering superpower when her children went to High School at Central Catholic in Modesto, where she would run the snack bar for events. If anyone or any organization needed volunteers, Judy would be the first to raise her hand and help in any way that she could.

After her children grew up, Judy worked for the San Joaquin County Office of Education, Project 654/Probation Department, until she retired. Judy has been a member of Our Lady of Fatima Young Ladies’ Grand Institute (YLI) in Escalon, Escalon Historical Society, Italian Catholic Federation (ICF) and the Manteca-Ripon Pentecost Society (MRPS). Judy was known for her spirit, passion, sense of humor and love for her family and friends. She enjoyed painting, volunteering, traveling, puzzles, playing cards, watching soap operas, visiting with friends and family, collecting Elvis Memorabilia (she was a self-described “Elvis Freak”) and most of all being a Noni to her grandchildren. We were truly blessed to have her in our lives and will miss her greatly, especially her humor.

Judy is survived by her children, Lori Martin and Anthony Martin (Christi); grandchildren, Jerry, Arianna, Christian, Gianna, Isabella and Ava; sisters, Dorothy (Piccoli) Miller and Caren (Piccoli) Cannon (Robin) as well as many cherished friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday May 11, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Highway 120, Escalon, CA followed by the Rosary at 10 a.m. and Mass of Catholic Burial at 10:30 a.m. In loving memory of Judy Martin, please consider making any memorial donations in Judy’s honor to the Escalon Historical Society, a cause so near and dear to her heart.
