Joan Scheid, 85, died Monday, Feb. 1 in Stockton.

She was born Ellen Joan Ruark on Aug. 27, 1924 in Holdenville, Oklahoma.

She moved to California as a young adult and worked at Hewlett-Packard for several years. She married Don Scheid while living in Palo Alto. The Scheids lived in Pollock Pines before moving to Farmington in 1973 where they were walnut growers for many years. They were also known for their collection of vintage vehicles and enjoyed motoring around in their classic Dodge tourist car.

Following her husband's death in 1993, Mrs. Scheid moved to Stockton, residing there except for two years spent in Las Vegas.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, good friend and neighbor. She had a love and a flair for interior decorating, was known for her sense of humor, loved to dance, and always enjoyed remembering the good times and even the bad times while growing up in the Depression.

She was also a loving aunt to her late nephew, Tim Ryan, who lived with the Scheids in Farmington during his school years at Escalon High in the late '70s. He later was known as "Fryin' Tim Ryan" - a popular radio DJ in Las Vegas during the 1990s. When he became ill, she moved to Las Vegas to care for him.

She specified no services. Her ashes will be placed in Farmington.
