Howard Smith, 62, passed away on Friday, October 19 from cancer at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

He was born on January 15, 1945 in Van Nuys, California to Claude and Lillian Smith. He was an Escalon resident for 60 years, working for Hogan Manufacturing for over 39 years.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 23 years, Janet; his daughter Jennifer and her husband Steve Lewis of Escalon; his grandchildren Emma, Evan and Ryan Lewis of Escalon; his brothers, Bob and his wife Pat Smith of Yuba City, and Don and his wife Velma Smith of Oakdale; his in-laws Luigi and Silvana DeDalt of San Mateo, Norma Marchesin of San Mateo, and Linda and Gary Romano of Escalon; as well as many nephews and nieces.

He enjoyed fishing, taking pictures - especially of the grandkids, working in the yard, music, gambling, making gadgets and being with his friends. Most of all, he loved to be with his family.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 24 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Deegan Funeral Chapel, 1441 San Joaquin St. in Escalon. His service will be on Thursday, October 25 at 10 a.m. at Escalon Covenant Church, 1155 Escalon Avenue with burial following at Burwood Cemetery, 28320 East River Road in Escalon.
