Hoppy Powell

Aburey Lee "Hoppy" Powell, 76, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 surrounded by family at Doctors Medical Center after a brave battle against cancer. He was born in Bomer, OK in Love County on Sept. 1, 1936 to Bud and Mary Powell. He had been a resident of Escalon for 54 years.

He managed the family farming business as well as built the family trucking business for 52 years. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, watching basketball and PBR. He was a member of the Escalon Baptist Church and the California Trucking Association.

Survivors include his wife of four years, Donna; his sons, Keith Powell and his wife Denise of Escalon and Randy Powell and his wife Genell, also of Escalon; daughters, Rebecca Powell of Escalon and Sandy Bomer and her husband, Robert of Oakdale; his grandchildren: Karen Powell, Everett Powell, Kadee Green and Stefanie Powell, all of Escalon, Vince Powell and Garrett Machado, both of Oakdale; seven great-grandchildren; his sisters, Velma Trivelpiece, Joyce Varner, Claudine Monkres, and Ann Faulkenberry, all of OK and Carolyn Ryan of TX; brothers, Nelson Powell and Buddy Powell, both of OK.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Jean Powell, in 2006; his father, Bud Powell; his mother, Mary Powell; and sister, Ealeen Jones.

Services were Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Escalon Christian Reformed Church, 2203 California St., Escalon.
