Christene (Brady) Whitaker, 80, died on Saturday, March 5 in Modesto.

Born on Feb. 28, 1931, she was a long time resident of Escalon (over 45 years). She was born in Morristown, Tennessee, but lived most of her young life in Dayton, Ohio before moving to California in 1961 where she resided until her death.

Mrs. Whitaker worked as a classified employee for the Escalon Unified School District, from which she retired in the early 1990s.

Anyone who knew her knew she was an avid Christian believer who encouraged her family to develop and walk in a deep personal faith that would impact the world in which they lived. She attended the Pentecostal Church of God in Escalon for many years.

Mrs. Whitaker loved people and was the type of person that positively impacted nearly everyone she met. She considered it her life mission to make everyone feel "loved" and accepted. Her children considered her to be their prime role model, chief confidante and dearest friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Church, 1900 California St., Escalon on Saturday, March 19 at 2 p.m.

She is survived by a son, Tymothy Welton of Turlock; daughters, Pamela Crawford of Oakland and Tammy Haigh of Modesto; three granddaughters, Timmie LaNice of Ohio, Amber Gebrosky of Modesto and Audrey Solero of Concord; one grandson, Bobby Chamberlain of Oregon; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Whitaker; son Shawn Whitaker; sister, Frances Trueaux; and her parents, Barney and Ada Brady of Escalon.
