On the morning of April 23, 2022, our loving sister, aunt, sister-in-law and friend, Charlotte “Char” Gayle (Selby) Johnson, was called home to eternally be with her husband of 53 years, Richard “Dick” Johnson.

Charlotte, 83, was born in Merced, CA on May 12, 1938, and is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Geraldine Selby. She spent her younger years in Escalon working on the family dairy, graduating from Escalon High School, and attending Modesto JC and Fresno State. Upon Richard’s return from his service in the US Air Force, Char got to marry the love of her life in 1968. They moved to the Bay Area where she would continue to work in accounting and Dick for United Airlines. They spent 35 years there until their retirement. After that, they returned to Escalon to enjoy their next phase of life. They got back to country living where they would have pasture, raise her beloved cattle, and be closer to family.

Charlotte loved traveling. She and Richard traveled across the United States and visited many countries together. She also loved to sell Christmas Around the World. Another of her favorite things was spending time with her family and friends, especially around the holidays. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she would annually host a Christmas Open House where friends and family gathered together to visit and celebrate. Charlotte, with her wonderful laugh and smile, will always be remembered and truly missed by all of her family and friends.

Preceded in death by her older brothers, Ronald and Virgil Selby. Survived by her brother, Chuck (Lou) Selby; sister-in-law’s, RuthAnn (Ron) Cohagan, Jackie Johnson, Mayetta Selby, and Joyce Selby; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; along with special family friends, Kevin and Conner Crozier.

Charlotte will be honored at a graveside service on May 10 at 11 a.m. at Burwood Cemetery, 28320 East River Road in Escalon. Please visit Charlotte’s tribute page at www.deeganfuneralchapels.com to send the family your condolences.
