Carolina Catharina “Rina” Van der Werff (Vlasveld) passed away peacefully at home on December 12, 2020 at the age of 89. She was born December 2, 1931 in Zoeterwoude, South Holland. Rina followed her husband Jan to Escalon, California to live out his American dream. She gave all her love to her husband, kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren. She spoiled them all, and enjoyed their visits. She enjoyed knitting, attending church groups, and her morning walks around Escalon. Rina liked to entertain both friends and family and always welcomed people in her home.
She is reunited with her husband Johannes “Jan” Van der Werff in Heaven. Rina is survived by her children; Wilke (Piet) Versteege of Holland, Anja (Joe) Graham of Waterford, Adrian Vanderwerff of Escalon, and Peter (Liz) Vanderwerff of Escalon, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three of her sisters and one brother. Two of her brothers and one sister precede her in death.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Deegan Funeral Chapel. A funeral mass was held for Rina on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church followed by interment at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
