Jacob Walden, a member of the Escalon High School Class of 2020, was presented previously with the school’s most distinguished honor, the Wendell Eliason Memorial Award. Wendell Theo Eliason was a graduate of Escalon High School, a standout student and athlete. He was serving as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam when his helicopter was shot down on March 31, 1965 in the Quang Nam province, giving his life in service to this country. He was 24 years old. Each year, one graduating senior is selected to receive the award named in his memory. The student must exhibit the qualities of citizenship, leadership, conduct and service that Eliason was known for during his life. This year, that honor went to Walden.
