With East Bay Municipal Utilities District (EBMUD) increasing flows out of Camanche Reservoir, water flows into the Mokelumne River have increased, keeping Stillman Magee Regional Park and Woodbridge Wilderness Area closed at least through the month of July, San Joaquin County Park officials have announced.
Both facilities border the Mokelumne, which is now running at 2000 cubic feet per second (CFS). Due to high river flows and associated risk to public safety, access to these areas will remain closed. This includes access to all trails, picnic sites, parking areas and entry to the river at these locations. Gates to Stillman Magee Regional Park will remain closed and extra precautions are in place to enforce the closure. Additionally, access to the Mokelumne River Day Use area remains closed at this time, according to EBMUD’s website (https://www.ebmud.com/recreation/sierra-foothills/mokelumne-riverday-use-area).
The county Sheriff’s department removed all restrictions on the San Joaquin River earlier this month, allowing boat launching to reopen at both Mossdale Crossing and Dos Reis regional parks. Day-use facilities at both parks are open from 8 a.m. until posted closing time. Single vehicle entry fee is $5 weekdays, $6 weekends and most holidays. Vehicles over 22 ft. in length or with a tow are $12.
Park officials will continue to assess facilities for safety concerns and may close them if conditions warrant. Visitors are also encouraged to visit the county parks website at www.sjparks.com, Facebook or Instagram pages for current conditions and closures.
