State Gas Prices Vary

Modesto gas prices have risen 2.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.20/gallon as of Monday, Feb. 3, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 stations. Gas prices in Modesto are 1.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 16.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $2.86/gallon Monday while the most expensive was $3.69, a difference of 83.0 cents per gallon. The lowest price in the state on Monday was $2.80/gallon while the highest was $4.99, a difference of $2.19/gallon. The cheapest price in the entire country stood at $1.23/gallon while the most expensive was $104.90, a difference of $103.67/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 4.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.45/gallon. The national average is down 13.3 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 19.9 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

“For the third straight week, motorists have been greeted by falling gasoline prices in virtually every corner in every city and state in the country,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “Oil prices continue to sag on worries over the spread of the coronavirus, blowing the door wide open for a continued slump at the pump. Nearly 5,000 stations are currently selling gasoline under $2 per gallon, a critical psychological level, while some 17 states have at least one gas station under the mark.”

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $3.27/gallon, up 1.3 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.25; Oakland - $3.53, down 0.8 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.54; and San Jose - $3.48, up 1.7 cents from last week’s $3.46/gallon.
